What should I wear to first dance class?
So I’m taking this first dance class entitled "modern dance," and on the first day others were wearing some variation of some kind of stretchy shorts or pants. Where could I find these?
Bike shorts and a tee shirt. Or jazz pants (I like short ones to the knee.) Too long and they will get in your way. I get mine at a dance supply store. You can also find them online. Just google men’s dancewear.

You could probably find them at a local sports store or a dance store. But I wouldn’t worry about what other people are wearing so long as you are comfortable.
Modern dance (or any other form of abstract movement) would require you to be able to move in many different positions, forms, etc. They sometimes may not feel comfortable to you, which can be intentional in Modern dance.
So I would suggest you wear what you want to wear not what is "in" for dancers. (I usually wear tights or leggings with a leotard, t-shirt, and booty shorts.) Hope this helps!

You can find them at a dance supply store or online. They are ballet (or bike) shorts or just jazz pants. A snug tee would go along with that. Nothing baggy so they can see your body move and make corrections.

You would probably not need tights and a dance belt judging by what you say you saw others wearing. Stay away from anything that isn’t "footless" for modern. Modern is usually danced in bare feet.

either go to http://www.discountdancesupply.com or call up your teacher and ask where to buy what you need. Also, you can just wear tights and spandex used for sports
