What is a good dance class for girls who want to be cheerleaders?
I am in 8th grade and I'm starting high school next year. At the camp I'm going to, you have to pick a minor because it's a cheer camp. I want to improve my dance skills, so which class should I take?
Hip-hop
Jazz
Ballet
Contemporary
Mixed
Thanks a ton!
I think that jazz would be best because it combines the stretching and strengthening of ballet with the fun moves and cheerleading qualities of hip-hop. But contemporary would be good too. It just might not be as helpful to use in your routines.

ballet. it helps from the core to maintain balance and grace while dancing. Dont tak it lightly, as it is not supposed to be easy, all though, because you are going to queerleading camp, that is probably going to be the way it is. I hate cheerleaders how they think they can dance.
Im sorry, its nothing against you personally. I just think that if someone is going to dance, they should really pursue it and do it well. Not half assed, to rap music with pompoms.
Sorry. I had to get that off my chest But yeah. Take ballet.

I completely disagree. Although ballet is a wonderful class to take, and it's the core of dancing, it's not right for cheer-leading, because the only way it will help is by flexibility. I would suggest hip-hop, because they do creative moves and help you stretch, so it will definitely help with your cheer-leading.

Hip hop, it's used a LOT in cheerleading!
And it might be too late for you to just easily pick up ballet.

go with ballet and jazz cause they have some stretching stuff similar as cheerleading and hip hop for the moves

I would do mixed. They all have their pluses. But do mixed if you get to learn a little bit of everything. I think cheer would use a lot of hip hop stuff but ballet would be good to learn too. Country Swing I personally think would help a ton. If you get good, you can do a ton of way fun stunts. And of course you do stunts in cheer, so that would be a big help. You'd get used to being in the air and all that stuff, flipping down, landing, that sort of thing. I dont know anyone around that age that woudl be learning country swing, but if you do end up doing cheer all through high school, I would highly reccommend taking a country swing class, it would be a great benifit. Even if you dont like country music, you get used to it and dont even notice when your dancing, its extreamly fun. And a great work out. =) good luck.
If that didnt help much, sorry. I guess I would go with hip hop. Then you can have a few fun moves for when you go to high school dances, maybe even impress a few people. And you can always turn on the radio in your room and jam out. Ha ha, hip hop would be good.

i would do ballet. Ballet helps you warm up your muscles and flexibility and to be a cheeeraleader you got to be flexible for the stunts

Hip-Hop is used the most in cheerleading. As a former cheerleader myself, 99.99% of my routines and the routines I watched had very strong elements of Hip-Hop.
Jazz would also be good, as it'll help with your flexibility as well as learning to control your body.
I wouldn't suggest ballet at all. Ballet is very graceful (I've done 3.5 years of ballet, as well), and it's almost the polar opposite of cheerleading.

absolutely ballet!
it will help you develop everything that you need to be a cheerleader.
~balance
~flexibility
~posture/how you present yourself to an audience
~character
~strength (in every muscle of your body!)
Definitely ballet. The rest of the dances listed are great too, but ballet will definitely be the most beneficial to you.
I have noticed that the girls who have done ballet before who are now on my high school cheerleading team are way better than everyone else.
